Tis the season!

The time has come to celebrate another Fort Lauderdale tradition, one that officially lets us know another magical winter season is upon us. I am referring to the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade, the 12-mile parade that draws over a million attendees to Fort Lauderdale’s New River and Intracoastal Waterway. With everything from private boats, spectacular showboats, and luxurious corporate megayachts adorned with thousands of lights, lively music, gorgeous decorations, and even celebrities, it’s easy to see why this parade has been dubbed the “Greatest Show on H2O!”

This year the parade celebrates its 45th Anniversary to the theme “Comics & Cartoons Rocking the Night Away.” In an exciting twist, Miami native and global superstar Pitbull is the grand marshal of the parade this year, which ties in perfectly with his concert planned for tonight at Hard Rock Live. Other local celebrities who have led Winterfest Boat Parade are Flo Rida, Shaquille O’Neal, David Cassidy, Alonzo Mourning, and Barry Gibb.

The Boat Parade will start on the New River in downtown Fort Lauderdale, along the docks west of Stranahan House to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The Parade travels East to the Intracoastal Waterway as it continues North to Lake Santa Barbara in Pompano Beach. As stated earlier, it truly is a 12 mile extravaganza, so prepare for around 2 and ½ hours to view the parade in its entirety if planning to watch from one location. Special highlights of the parade are the Grand Marshal Showboat, Galleria Mall Reindeer Barge, and the Santa Showboat.

The Winterfest Boat Parade is a part of Fort Lauderdale history, and an event everyone should experience! Tickets are priced at $25 for general admission, $22 for seniors and military, and $20 for children 10 or younger. Parade hours are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Get ready to jump into the holiday spirit in a way befitting Fort Lauderdale, the “Yachting Capital of the World,” with festive boats that would make Santa proud!
