It was just released that the American Tennis Association is considering a site on Sistrunk Boulevard to build a $6 million dollar training center. The Sony Ericsson in Key Biscayne draws hundreds of thousands of tennis fans to Miami, and Fort Lauderdale could get similar benefits of national attention and proceeds from the attraction. The proposal includes a design by Venus Williams and would house a Black Tennis Hall of Fame. Williams is owner of V*Starr Interiors in Jupiter, which is also an area that many tennis players train in.
This would be an amazing facility to have in Fort Lauderdale as it will be open to the public and have 13 tennis courts, a 1,000 seat stadium, office, and exhibit space. It is not official yet, however it is an incredible prospect. The American Tennis Association projects that the facility would be complete in 2016, in time for its’ 100th anniversary. The site plan is scheduled to be unveiled with full plans and renderings on August 1st. The event will take place during the 96th annual amateur tennis tournament program that runs from August 1-3rd
